Creek County Literacy Program Announces the Winners of the 16th Annual Creek County Spelling Bee
There were 21 teams registered at the 16th Annual Creek County Spelling Bee, but just one team walked away with the coveted Traveling Trophy. The Overall Winner was Sapulpa Public Library, The Wannabeezzz, by correctly spelling “plagiarism”.
Divisional trophies were awarded as follows:
Schools: Oklahoma School for the Blind OSB’s Braille’s Bees
Public Service: Sapulpa Arts The Drama Queens
Businesses: Inverness Village Benevolent Bees
Civics & Clubs: Sapulpa Public Library The Wanabeezzz
Banks: American Heritage Bank Mother Mary’s School for Girls
Most Spirited: Sapulpa Arts The Drama Queens
Best Costume: Creek County Literacy Program Napoleon Dynamite
Sponsors included American Heritage Bank and Tulsa Freightliner. A special thanks to Mix 96 Tad Lemire for emceeing and Danziger Photography for photographing the event. Sapulpa High School hosting the 2014 Spelling Bee appropriately enough, as the theme was It’s Time for you to BEE Back in School!
Money raised from the Spelling Bee furthers the Mission, which is to encourage, educate and equip aspiring readers to overcome the barriers of illiteracy.
17% of adults in Creek County 18 years or older do not have a high school diploma, and 4% of adults in Creek County 18 years or older do not have a 9th grade education.
