Creek County Literacy Program Announces Free Workshop: Easy Flavored Waters & Healthy Fruit Salads

Live cooking demonstration provides easy, healthy recipes

(SAPULPA, OK – March 24, 2015) Join Creek County Literacy Program and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service as we learn how to make easy flavored waters and healthy fruit salads. This live cooking demonstration is presented by Marie Gibbs, a nutrition education assistant with the Creek County Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service. Gibbs’ two-fold workshop will demonstrate simple, inexpensive recipes using fresh ingredients.

“Infused water is so easy to make at home, and is less expensive than store bought. Many of the flavored waters from the supermarket contain preservatives, artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup. Our recipes contain water, fresh produce and herbs, and they’re so refreshing!” shares Gibbs.

As the warmer weather approaches, it is important to remember to drink plenty of water, especially for older adults and the very young. Dehydration can be very serious and many factors put older adults at a higher risk of dehydration.

Gibbs will also prepare a fresh Fruit Salad and Fresh Summer Fruit Salsa. The dishes Gibbs prepares will be available to sample. There will be recipes and handouts for participants. The workshop will be held at the Library Annex, 15 North Poplar Street in Sapulpa on Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30pm.

This free event is a health literacy outreach project of Creek County Literacy Program, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, with funding provided by the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
